CLINICAL AUDIT

WORKSHOP

CLINICAL AUDIT LEADS

Who should attend

The workshop is designed for doctors, nurses, pharmacists, therapists and other healthcare professionals who are responsible for leading clinical audit in their specialties, services or professions. The workshop also is suitable for clinical audit committee members and staff supporting clinical audit.

What you learn

Many clinical staff are asked by their clinical directors to take on the leadership of clinical audit in their services; however, they may have little preparation for the role. When done properly, clinical audits can be effective in producing improvements in the quality of patient care. A Clinical Audit Lead can enhance the possibility that clinical audits will benefit patient care by proactively leading their colleagues through carrying out the best possible clinical audits for their service.

The workshop suggests ways in which Clinical Audit Leads can and should be proactive facilitators of quality improvement in their clinical services, using the clinical audit process. Practical guidance such as how to assess the design of a clinical audit, how to lead discussion among colleagues about the preliminary findings of a clinical audit, how to recognize additional ‘exceptions’ to quality-of-care measures and acknowledge implicit judgements about the quality of patient care made by colleagues, and how to find and act on causes of problems impeding the quality of care are included in the workshop.

Each participant will be provided with a copy of a 60-page book, Leading Clinical Audit.

Certificates of participation in the workshop are provided.
