Clinical Governance for Teams — a local workshop for clinical staff

Benefits of the workshop

Many people working in healthcare organizations don't have a good understanding of governance and assurance and aren’t sure what their specific responsibilities are in relation to clinical governance. So staff members don’t always actively participate in clinical governance–related activities. Our half– and one–day workshops explain practically what’s involved in governance and helps participants make practical plans on how they will take clinical governance forward in their clinical services.

Intended participants

The workshop is designed for all clinical staff and clinical service managers. Doctors and other healthcare professionals in training programmes will also benefit from participation in the workshop.

Learning objectives

The workshop helps staff understand governance and the components of clinical governance and learn how to:

  • assess progress on governance-related activities in an organization or a clinical service
  • consider the implications of international evidence on implementing quality improvement programmes and on patient safety for clinical services
  • sharpen clinical audit and risk management activities to bring about improvements in the quality and safety of patient care
  • outline organizational and clinical service strategies, structures and systems needed and how to continue to shift the organizational and clinical service culture to support clinical governance
  • develop consensus on priorities for further development of clinical governance
  • outline action plans to move forward on clinical governance activities.
Venue and format

We provide the workshop in local organizations on a day most convenient to the clinical staff who will participate. The workshop can be a half-day or a full day.

The workshop includes short presentations and small group and individual practical work. Participants assess present arrangements and progress in clinical governance in clinical services, set priorities for further development and outline actions needed to make progress on clinical governance in the organization or clinical services.

Each participant receives a 55–page book on clinical governance, Moving Forward with Clinical Governance, that includes reference material on clinical governance and practical tasks for participants to complete in the workshop. Certificates of attendance are provided.
